#5       Weisman Art Museum makes national list of ‘amazing’ college buildings,More info:bringmethenews

One of the University of Minnesota’s most distinctive landmarks has made a national list of outstanding college architecture.

The Weisman Art Museum —which is on the U’s Minneapolis campus — is among USA Today’s “51 amazing university and college buildings across the USA,” which was published this month.

As the paper notes, the building was designed by famed architect Frank Gehry, who is best known for the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles.

The museum, which has been part of the university in one form or another since 1934 (and originally housed in the Northrop Auditorium), moved into its present location in 1993, according to its website.

This was thanks in part to Frederick R. Weisman, a “California philanthropist, art patron, and entrepreneur” whose $3 million donation was instrumental in giving the museum “a new home” (hence its name).

The unique, futuristic building bears all the hallmarks of Gehry’s  deconstructivism — an architectural style which My Modern Met describes as “a movement in postmodern architecture where elements of the design appear to be fragmented; they are often described as chaotic or disjointed.”

#2       MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA: FREDERICK R. WEISMAN ART MUSEUM,More info:souvenirchronicles.blogspot

The University of Minnesota was the lucky recipient of a very large legacy from Frederick R. Weisman, a native Minnesotan who moved to California and married the sister of billionaire Norton Simon, made billions of dollars himself in multiple businesses (the man had the Midas touch), amassed a huge modern art collection, and gave most of it away.
The part given to the University of Minnesota is housed in a museum designed by the renowned architect Frank Gehry, and with its stainless steel-coated twisting and turning exterior, it reminds me a lot of the Gehry-designed Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles:
