Angel Falls  is a waterfall in Venezuela. It is the world’s highest uninterrupted waterfall, with a height of 979 metres (3,212 ft) and a plunge of 807 m (2,648 ft). The waterfall drops over the edge of the Auyán-tepui mountain in the Canaima National Park (Spanish: Parque Nacional Canaima), a UNESCO World Heritage site in the Gran Sabana region of Bolívar State. The height figure, 979 m (3,212 ft), mostly consists of the main plunge but also includes about 400 metres (1,300 ft) of sloped cascade and rapids below the drop and a 30-metre (98 ft) high plunge downstream of the talus rapids,More info:wiki

The Angel Waterfall found itself in the very heart of the Canaima National Park in Venezuela, not far from the border with Brazil and Guyana.

A small old “Douglas” was on its way to bring us from Puerto Ordaz to Canaima. The bigger part of the car was occupied by our suitcases filled with equipment. Through the windows we could see the tepuis, the famous table-top mountains. Over the edge of one of these mountains, Auyan-tepui, the world’s highest waterfall drops.

The story of its exploration is rather unusual. On November 14, 1933 an American aviator Jimmie Angel flew solo over the Devil’s Canyon in search of gold ore beds. On his return he spoke of an “incredible waterfall falling a mile down”. No one believed him, though.

Four years later he returned to Venezuela. This time he was accompanied by his wife Marie (a co-pilot and a navigator) and assistants Angel Delgado, Gustavo Heny and Felix Cardona.

The world’s highest waterfall is Venezuela’s premier highlight and a place no adventurous traveller should miss visiting. It’s not only that the falls are spectacularly dramatic (which they are) nor the fact that getting there is half the fun (which it most definitely is). But the fact that Angel Falls are set deep within one of the most impenetrable national parks in all of South America.

By the time you’ve hiked to Angel Falls in the heart of the Canaima National Park, you will have immersed yourself in one of the most pristine and unspoiled corners of the world.
For nature lovers who have seen it and done it all, there are very few challenges that can match the sheer irresistible pull of Angel Falls. And for those who want to experience a completely disconnected natural paradise, a place where our modern and fast-paced civilization seems but a distant memory, a visit to Angel Falls will be the ultimate soul-reviving experience.

Thundering Angel Falls is the world’s highest waterfall and Venezuela’s number-one tourist attraction. Its total height is 979m (3211ft), of which the uninterrupted drop is 807m (2646ft), about 16 times the height of Niagara Falls. The cascade spills off the heart-shaped Auyantepui, one of the largest of the tepuis (sandstone-capped mesa), into Devil’s Canyon.

Angel Falls is not named after a divine creature, but after an American bush pilot, Jimmy Angel, who crash landed his four-seater airplane atop Auyantepui in 1937.

The waterfall is situated in a distant, lush wilderness with no road access. Most visitors who visit by boat opt to stay overnight in hammocks at one of the camps near the base of the falls. The canoe trip upriver, the surrounding area and the experience of staying at the camp are nearly as memorable as the waterfall itself.

The first day of the trip, you enjoy a premium reception at one of the local inns and enjoy the flavors of the Venezuelan cuisine. After eating up, the adventure begins with a field trip to the Canaima Lagoon and a walk behind the Sapo Falls. After that, the group returns to camp for a cultural exchange with the indigenous pemones.

Day two begins early with breakfast and a curiara (traditional Venezuelan canoe) ride across the river Carrao. During the trip, you will stand in front of the majestic Auyan-Tepuy and get closer to Angels falls every minute. After a unique 4 hour ride to Raton Island in front our final destination. Take a deep breath. Focus on maintaining weight in the bottom of your legs to anchor your stance on the brink of oblivion and for God’s sake watch your step. Tentatively leaning forwards you get your first glimpse over Auyán-tepui’s eastern ledge. Locking on to a single patch of water, you watch it shatter into a million droplets. Though much of it will drift away as a fine mist long before it reaches the base, it cascades almost a thousand meters to the jungle canopy below.

With a concoction of nerves, adrenaline and exhaustion running riot through their bodies, this is where January’s Venezuela expedition team faced their fears. Peering over the edge means the five day hike to the summit was behind them. The following morning, they’d commence their abseil descent of Angel Falls, the world’s highest uninterrupted waterfall.

In January 2018, Secret Compass led a team of five to abseil the length of the falls. Best passed on by the acrophobes among us though, it’s virtually impossible to prepare for the extreme exposure the team would face during the two day, 23 rope length descent of the humungous wall.

Now, having returned to the every day of their respective lives, we caught up with Italian teammate Daniela to hear her experience.

#2       Pennsylvania Waterfalls: How to Get to Angel Falls in Loyalsock State Forest ,More info:uncoveringpa

There are many great waterfalls hidden away in Sullivan County, Pennsylvania, but none are taller than Angel Falls. Located in Loyalsock State Forest and near Worlds End State Park, Angel Falls is roughly 70 feet in height. While it rarely flows well, if you can visit this waterfall during the spring thaw or after a heavy rain, it’s an amazing site to see.

When I just started exploring Pennsylvania, Angel Falls was one of the first waterfalls I visited. However, since my visit was in the summer, the falls weren’t much more than a trickle. Wanting to see this waterfall at its most impressive, I recently revisited the falls after a good deal of rain had fallen in northeastern Pennsylvania.
