Antelope Canyon is without doubt one of the most sought-after and high-demand tourist destinations in the area, perhaps in the entire American Southwest. This ancient slot canyon is practically invisible from the outside, but upon entering its discreet opening in the desert stone, a deep winding corridor will lead you through several large sandstone “rooms” with soft sandy floors. The walls of this slot canyon have been smoothed and rippled by thousands of years of water and wind erosion. The undulation of the walls is what causes the world-famous light shafts to filter through to the bottom of the canyon. Catching a glimpse of these sun beams is a photographer dream – in fact, they are the subject of the most expensive photo ever sold. The once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to visit Antelope Canyon isn’t limited to visitors to Page – our Las Vegas terminal offers daily tours!

We had been dreaming about visiting Antelope Canyon in Arizona USA for a long time.

Having seen these reddish, water-carved curves hundreds of times, we could not stop imagining the infinite possibilities for photography. The only issue at the time was that we weren’t sure where Antelope Canyon was on a map.

Once we discovered that Antelope Canyon is located Page, in northern Arizona, our West Coast USA itinerary was clear. Not only was it one of the top destinations of our trip, but it also happened to be on the way to a few other spots on our West Coast America visit and photography bucket list.

You can find a map with the locations of Antelope Canyon, other US National Parks, and surrounding points of interest in our west coast travel guide.

Frequently overlooked in favour of the Grand Canyon National Park, Antelope Canyon has only recently gained popularity due to social media. On Instagram, the hashtag #AntelopeCanyon has gathered more than 455,000 posts displaying this awe-inspiring natural rock formation. The Navajo tribes discovered the surreal landscape of Antelope Canyon. Let’s take a walk through this mysterious canyon.

One thing we were thankful for during our tour of Upper Antelope Canyon was our guide.  He rocked at knowing good spots and also for tossing sand in strategic locations.

We had already shot the sand falling on the right side during our first pass through the Canyon, so on our way back he said he could make it fall on both sides. I quickly moved to this spot and was thankful for the 14mm lens I had with me. It was kind of a tiny area, so being able to get that wide was a bonus.

The rock formation in the middle kind of “jutted” out towards me and reminded me of a big nose on an old man’s face.

Definitely loved being able to finally visit this place, but this scene doesn’t tell the story of about 6 other photographers lined up to my right all shooting the same thing. And people waiting behind them to pass through.

If you are a photographer, I highly recommend paying for the two-hour tour because you get more time and also a bit of preferential treatment.

#2         Antelope Canyon tours: Is the upper or lower slot canyon right for you?,More info:azcentral

Antelope Canyon is one of the most widely photographed slot canyons in the Southwest. Vibrant photos from inside the ravine have been featured in National Geographic and used as a stock image for Apple products. Here is everything you need to know about making a trip to the Navajo Reservation near Page to explore the colorful canyons.

The first thing to know is that there are two canyons: Upper — “The Crack” — and Lower — “The Corkscrew.” Both require guided tours.

The main difference between the two canyons is their overall shape, said Brenda Catron, the fee collection supervisor of Lake Powell Navajo Tribal Park and Antelope Canyon for Navajo Parks and Recreation.

Upper Antelope Canyon is in the shape of the letter “A” where the canyon has a narrow opening at the top and the walls widen toward the bottom. Tour guides drive visitors about 3.5 miles down a sandy road to the entrance and guests walk right into the canyon.

Lower Antelope Canyon has one-way traffic with visitors entering at one end and leaving at the other. Upper Antelope Canyon has two-way traffic so visitors can return to the tour vehicles.
